Blackburn Hawks Golf Day – Player Announcement

Glenn Young 2006-2007

What did Glenn bring to the club?

A name a lot of hawks fans probably won’t recognise, but Glenn was a shrewd signing back in 2006 for the Hawks from the then Hull Stingrays. He came in with big size, toughness, a blue helmet and an eye for goal. Something we were missing at that time. Having played rep level with Glenn & Bobby Haig as coach I knew that we were getting an elite level player. He proved to be a great signing by Bob.

My favourite memory of Glenn in a Hawks shirt?

Well I remember Glenn being very strong on the puck and always up for those personal battles. Having played against him for a lot of years I knew how competitive he was, and when he joined the Hawks he was no different. He could pick the spots and was a real handful in front of the net. I remember him scoring a goal and having a great fight against the old Newcastle Vipers side, that really set the tone for a win. Also that blue helmet that you could see from all over the ice.

What do I think Glenn will be like as a golfer?

Well as a Yorkshire man we will have to keep our eyes on him, he’ll be overwhelmed with the scenery of the red rose countryside so hopefully that will make him play well. In all seriousness I know Glenn plays quite often so again I predict him to be another dark horse that will post a low score, and no doubt will have many stories from all his hockey career not just his year he had with us.
