Reece Cairney-witter – Blackburn Hawks – 2012 – 2017
What did Reece bring to the club?
Reece came to the Hawks as a young hard hitting defenceman & he still plays in that vein (with added experience these days). He arrived at the club just 17 years of age but with a reputation of being a solid figure on the ice (we call him the mammal). Reece is a player that would always fight his battles and would always answer the bell for not only himself but his team mates. He’s a player that is not afraid to get in the way of the puck, something that goes a long way with the boys, defensively solid and someone that you would always want on your team, but never want to play against. He has true passion, both on and off the ice & truly optimises the words “team mate”.
My favourite moment of Reece in a Hawks shirt?
My favourite moment of Reece is seeing how much passion and fight he brought to the ice week in week out. He has the heart of a giant and would do what it takes to help the boys out. Not only that but he really is a team first guy & the second year we won the league in 15/16 Reece set the tone every night. As we like to say at the club. “No backward steps”.
What do I think Reece will be like as a golfer?
Powerful – and with a voice you’d be able to hear throughout the course. He’s always ready to have a good laugh and would be a serious contender in the competition for longest drive. Again as previously stated with all the lads so far Reece will be great fun to play with & you’d be in stitches with all his stories.
None other than Bobby Streetly will be accompanying Reece as his caddy. It was unfortunate when we learned of Bobby’s shoulder injury ruling him out of playing, but it’s great to have him involved on the day still.
