Blackburn Hawks Weekend Preview

Your Full 9 Yards sponsored Blackburn Hawks have two league games this weekend. On Saturday we travel to Sheffield to take on the so far undefeated Steeldogs, face off 1930hrs. The following day we entertain the Solihull Barons.

Hawks will be in great spirits after winning three games on the bounce and they will lwant to avenge the 0-6 home defeat recently in the North Cup.

On Sunday Solihull Barons are the visitors and they have beaten the Hawks on their two previous meetings. Things might be a little different this time.

THREE BARONS TO WATCH

Danny Brittle      –              Player/coach – Netminder

Danny is one of 3 Brittles in the Barons’ squad and of course is well known to Blackburn Fans having iced for 9 seasons in Hawk’s colours, picking up Championship and Play-off medals in the glory years of 2014-5 and 2015-6. He also doubled up as Player/Assistant coach in that time. He moved back to his home club in 2016-17 then over to Solihull as Player/coach the season after.

Dale White          –              Defender/Forward

Dale started his hockey career in the juniors with the Barons in 2003-04 and graduated to the senior team in 2005-6. Oxford City Stars was his next port of call which included 2 guest appearances in the Elite League with Edinburgh Capitals. He earned a full time slot in Coventry Blaze’s roster as well as 2 seasons with their Nihl2 side, then returned to the Barons in 2017-18. Dale can play as a D man and forward, showing his versatility.

Luke Brittle         –              Forward

Youngest of the Brittle family at the Barons and arguably the better of the 3. His early years were spent at his home town Telford junior set up and gained a GB u-18 cap in 2009-10 while with the Telford Titans. The following season he moved to the Telford Tigers and in 2011-12 scored 14 goals and 23 assists for the and gained a second call up to the GB u-18’s. Again another Brittle who donned Hawks colours in the 2014-15 championship year scoring 35 goals and 37 assists. He has been with the Barons for 2 years and is still knocking in the goals with 18 already this season in 11 games.

It will be another tough weekend for the Hawks but, every weekend is tough in our league. Coach Duncombe will be eager to follow up last weekends great form with another home win to start putting the pressure on teams just above them in the league.

Face off will be at the usual time of 1730hrs with doors opening at 1645.
