Saturday night saw them travel the length of the M62 to take on the Hull Pirates, backed by a good following of Hawks fans. Despite a huge effort from the team, Hull proved two strong for them and the home side ran out 10-3. Hawks had their chances and got a creditable 33 shots on the Hull netminder Ashley Smith but clinical finishing told in the end. Hawks goals came from a brace by Kieran Brown on his return to the team and James Riddoch.
On Sunday, Sheffield Steeldogs were the visitors and although the Hawks lost 0-6, they matched a very good side in the first period only to fall behind to some clinical finishing by the Yorkshire outfit.
Assistand coach James Neil commented after the game,” That was a tough weekend for us as we came up against two tough opponents, Lapses in concentration are costing us dear. The effort is there from the team and our forward play just needs to catch a break and the goals will go in. Defence is not just about defenders, everybody has to play their part and that is something we will be working in training to address. Despite the heavy losses this weekend we are not far away from being a good side and with a bit of work we will turn this around. Thanks to the Hawks fans who travelled to Hull on Saturday and for their support on Sunday.”
