The “Full 9 Yards” sponsored Blackburn Hawks are pleased to announce the signing of young Welsh defenceman/forward Ross Kennedy

Ross, born in St Asaph, Wales, 20 years ago, now standing 5ft 7 in and weighing in at 187lbs, has played all his junior/senior career in Deeside for the then Flintshire Flames at under 16 level then the Deeside Dragons at U16, 18 and 20 levels.

After breaking into the Dragons’ NIHL2 side in 2013-14, he saw much more ice time the following season and played 24 games, scoring 6 goals and 5 assists whilst also captaining the under 18 side for 12 games.

In 2015-16, Manchester Phoenix called him up for 3 games in the EPIHL. His regular job that year saw him ice for the Dragons at under 18 and 20 levels along with 24 games for their NIHL2 side for whom he scored 2 goals and 26 assists to add to his 21 goals and 14 assists for the under 20s.

He was also drafted that season by Canadian based the Tillsonburg Hurricanes in the GMHL draft.

The following season saw much of the same from Ross where he iced for the Dragons NIHL and under 20 sides. Manchester Phoenix also called on him again and, in his only EPL game, he managed an assist, much to the delight of the Phoenix fans.

Last year he played 24 games for the Dragons in the NIHL, scoring 9 goals and assisting 13 times and he also played 4 times for their NIHL2 side.

Ross has played twice in the annual England v Scotland under 19 games and also owns an NIHL2 North champions and play off champions medals.

Ross said this to the Hawks Press Officer

“I am excited for what challenges are ahead for the upcoming season. I feel welcomed into the team already. With lots of hard work and tough games to look forward to, it will definitely be a great experience.”

Assistant coach James Neil commented,

“Ross is a good young all-around player who can play both forward and defence. He has patience and composure on the puck and can make smart plays all over the ice, which is needed now the league has improved once again. I am sure Ross will be a great addition to the team and we look forward to working with him over the next season.”
