Hawks sign Lithuanian International Forward

With the announcement Friday of our new major sponsor, followed on Saturday by the signing of Ross Kennedy and Own and Loan jersey announcement the good news for the Hawks just keeps on flowing

Your “Full 9 Yards” sponsored Blackburn Hawks have moved quickly following the announcement that Robin Kovar wont be joining the roster and we are delighted to announce the signing of Lithuanian Centreman, Danielius Nomanovas.

The 22-year-old, born in Lithuania’s capital city Vilnius, stands 6ft tall and weighs in at 172lbs.

Described as a capable play-maker on the ice with an accurate wrist shot and has shown flashes of his offensive talents in his first seasons of playing in good level European Leagues.

He started his junior career in his home town playing for Vilnius PILDYK under 16 team in 2010 and the following season for Vanvita Vilnius. That season he was picked for the Lithuania under 18 side in the World Junior Championships scoring 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 games.

2012-13 saw him play for Vilnius VNA and was picked for his national under 18 team as an assistant captain in the World Juniors and also for the under 20s in their championships. The following season he moved to Baltica Vilnius and Energija Elektrenai in Belarus and games for the National u-20 side in the Worlds.

The youngster iced for Zalgiris Vilnius in 2014-15 scoring 18 goals and 28 assists and 117 penalty minutes along with games in the national U-20 side and a call up to the senior side in the World Championships Division 1b.

In 2015-16 he was back in Belarus to play for Energija before moving to Latvia with Zemgali. He also played 7 games for the national side in the Olympic Qualifiers and World Division 1b.

He moved to the Belgium/Netherlands league with Eindhoven before returning again last season to Belarus to play for Enegijascoring 17 goals and 24 assists with 95 penalty minutes in a 41 game season.

On signing for the Hawks Danielius said,

“Its a pleasure to join the Blackburn Hawks. I Cant wait to start and contribute to the team as much as I can. And achieve great results together with the club”.

 

Assistant Coach James Neil said on capturing Danielius signature,

We are delighted to get a player of the ability and skill of Danielius, you only have to watch some of his highlights and see what great hands and playmaking abilities he has. He is still young but also has plenty of experience to help the team improve as a whole. We are really excited to have a player of Danielius calibre, it’s been a tough week after the news Robin won’t be joining us next year, but we have been patient and found a quality replacement.

As Danielius is a new player for the Hawks, after 48 hours all applications will be reviewed and if necessary a Facebook Live draw will be organised where Assistant Coach James Neil will pick out the winners.
