‘KOVAR’ FLYS IN TO THE HAWKS NEST

The Blackburn Hawks and Coach Duncombe are pleased to announce the first player signing for the forthcoming 2018 / 19 season.

Robin Kovar is well known to ice hockey fans in the North West and UK alike having plied his trade with the Manchester Phoenix and latterly the Swindon Wildcats in the English Premier Ice Hockey League.

During his time in Manchester he was the EPIHL’s top point scorer with 90 points in 2015 / 16 and was an EPIHL All-star and part of League Championship winning team in 2013 / 14.

34 year old, Robin stands 6’1” tall, weighs 196 lbs and shoots right, last season he iced in Kazakhstan for Ertis Povlodar where he scored 13 points in 22 games.

Robin started his career playing in his home country of the Czech Republic in the HC Vsetin junior system and he was drafted to the WHL in 2002 to the Vancouver Giants before joining the Regina Pats for the 2003/04 season.

Since 2004, Robin has iced for teams in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Holland before arriving in the UK to play for Manchester Phoenix in 2013 where in 4 seasons he amassed 291 points from 187 games.  With the demise of the Manchester Phoenix in his fourth year he finished off the season in Swindon with the Wildcats where he played 15 games for a 22 point haul.

Robin said on agreeing his deal with the Hawks, “I am pleased to agree a deal with my new team Blackburn Hawks. After my return to UK I was looking for team to play for and Blackburn will be perfect fit. I will do my best to help the Blackburn to be successful and have a great season ahead. I am looking forward to a new challenge and will be also nice to play again with some of my old teammates.”

Coach Duncombe commented, “I am so pleased Robin has agreed to play for the Hawks next season he is the one non-British trained player I wanted on the roster and this move alone makes us a better hockey club”.

“I would like to thank the owners for having the belief in the club and for giving me the opportunity to go out and sign a player of Robin’s capability and credentials – I really can’t wait for the season to start”, continued Steve.

With confirmation that the league and cup structure has now been agreed the Hawks can confirm that 2018 / 19 Season Ticket package will be announced very shortly.
