Blackburn Hawks Ice Hockey Club are delighted to be able to announce one of our challenge games will be against Scottish National League side Kilmarnock Thunder on Sunday 3rd September 2023.

Hawks Co-Owner, Graham Lomax commented:

‘We’re absolutely delighted to be able to invite Thunder down to us, we’ve been in talks for some time now, not only with Kilmarnock but other Scottish Teams to, it’s something we feel needs exploring if we’re to move the club and the sport forward, we feel our loyal fans also deserve to see some different Teams at the Arena for a touch of variety if nothing else, it would have been easy to invite the nearest team geographically to us for a game, but we feel we see enough of each other as it is, so we’re delighted to extend an invitation to The Thunder and show some Blackburn Hospitality on Sun 3rd Sept.

As a Club we’ve worked tirelessly to forge relations, partnerships and create pathways for players with other clubs in all leagues, and this is another instance of this working.

Not only do we have a link in Kirkcaldy that has already proved it’s worth with the likes of Ben Keddie and Brodie Kay being able to ice with both clubs, and naturally nurture their development, there is no a doubt an abundance of young talent north of the border.

So it just remains for me to say we look forward to seeing our visitors from Scotland, but we also look forward to seeing our fans back in the building once again, your support is unparalleled in our division, and we more than anyone respect that, there is nowhere better to play.

Scott Campbell, Chairman of Scottish Ice Hockey and Assistant Coach at Kilmarnock Thunder IHC commented:

‘Kilmarnock Thunder would like to thank Blackburn Hawks for inviting us down to play in this pre season friendly, it is really appreciated and will provide a good team bonding trip for the Thunder guys, as well as allowing the coaching team to work on some line combinations and D pairings in the build up to our SNL season commencing.

As our league has developed over the last season it is becoming far more serious than it was and its great that clubs like Blackburn have recognised this and are inviting us down to play in these games, hopefully this is the start of more cross border competition between NIHL 1 teams and SNL teams which can only benefit the development of all our players.’

Bring on the Roar!!
