The Blackburn Arena will be the stage for the 11th Annual BUIHA Varsity Final, when the Oxford Blues take on the Edinburgh Eagles on Saturday, 17 May.
The final, which is being organised in conjunction with the Blackburn HAWKS, will see the top two student teams in the UK battle it out to be crowned champions.
The British Universities Ice Hockey Association is Europe’s only full season Varsity ice hockey competition, with nearly all of the major UK universities represented.
With strong regular season campaigns behind them, both sides will be hoping that they can top their season with a victory.
Edinburgh clinched the D1 Northern Conference in dramatic fashion, edging out the Sheffield Bears on goal difference. Saturday will be their third Varsity Cup Final appearance, after defeat in 2011 and 2013 to the London Dragons.
Oxford were able to seal their D1 Southern Conference title by a clear four points and will be buoyed by a convincing 13 : 7 victory over arch-rivals Cambridge in ice-hockey’s oldest annual derby – dating back to 1885.
