Aaron Davies and Ric Hughes both scored hat-tricks as Blackburn HAWKS recovered from a five-game winless run with a 16-1 thrashing of Telford Titans.
Sam Dunford, David Meikle, Adam Brittle, Ollie Lomax, Matt Viney and Daniel MacKriel also appeared on the score sheet for the home side.
Veteran forward Davies, now into his eleventh season with the club, scored a quarter of the Hawks’ goals in what player-coach Jared Owen hopes will be a turning point in their campaign.
The East Lancashire side had struggled for goals in recent games but had plenty of joy with the puck on home territory on Sunday, against the NIHL Moralee Conference bottom club.
There were seven different scorers inside the first 26 minutes, as Hawks roared into a 7-1 lead.
Player-coach Jared Owen, who missed Sunday’s game with a back injury, watched from the bench as his side ended the second period with an 8-1 lead, then doubled their return in the final period.
“We needed that win,” said Owen, “We didn’t want Telford to be a banana skin to us.
“Our finishing wasn’t the best in the first two periods but we had more shots than we’ve had recently and gradually we wore them down, took our chances and scored some pretty nice goals.
“We’ve had a bit of a bad spell, although we haven’t played badly – we’ve just not been able to put the puck in the net.
“So hopefully by scoring this many the lads will loosen up a bit in front of goal and stop over-thinking things.”
The Hawks return to action on the road this Saturday against the Sutton Sting, before facing local rivals Manchester Minotaurs at the Blackburn Arena.
