With the dust settled on the 2013/14 campaign, the stars of the Blackburn HAWKS have been showing their appreciation for the fans who have cheered on the team over the past season.

The past year has seen another increase in crowd numbers at the Blackburn Ice Arena, and a large following of travelling fans at games up and down the country.

This culminated in an incredible turnout at the NIHL Moralee Playoff Weekend, in which the Hawks fans made the journey north en-masse, to create a ‘home game atmosphere’ for their team.

Blackburn Hawks forward, Jon Adams, who joined the team from his native Canada in November, took to Facebook to express his gratitude to the support he and his team-mates have received.

Commenting on the official Hawks Facebook page, Jon said: “I would like to give a huge thank you to all the amazing fans who have supported my teammates and I, during our journey over the course of the season!

“Each of you have made feel very welcomed and I can’t thank you enough! It has been one of the most memorable and successful seasons of my hockey career.”

Former Manchester captain, Jake Nurse, said on Twitter: “2 of the best hockey games I’ve ever been part of! Proud of the lads and the effort we put in! The fans were unbelievable, thank you!”

Defenseman, Ollie Lomax, also took to Twitter following the Playoff Weekend: “Absolute battle out there tonight, proud to be part of such a great club. Every guy put 100% in just wasn’t meant to be. Congrats to Sharks.

“Also fantastic to see so many Hawks fans take over the Dumfries ice bowl, sorry we couldn’t retain the trophy.”

Head Coach Jared Owen, who had led his side to a third consecutive Playoff Final, said: “The Hawks fans were first class all season really getting behind the team.

“This was really evident in Dumfries where it appeared the fans took over the rink and made both games feel like home games. They were loud and proud all weekend and it’s really a pleasure to get to play in front of them home and away.”

As the team regroups and prepares for next season, keep an eye on BlackburnHawks.com, the Twitter and Facebook pages for all the latest news over the summer.
