The Blackburn HAWKS are delighted to welcome Czech defenceman Pavel Slowik who joins the club for the 2014/15 season.
The 32-year-old Karvina native has played the majority of his career with his home-town team, SK Karvina (pictured) and in the Czech3 league with HC Orlova.
Pavel follows a recent influx of high-quality import players in East Lancashire, including Finn Sami Narkia, Latvian Ivo Dimitrijevs and Canadian Jon Adams.
Hawks head coach, Jared Owen, said: “I’m delighted to have been able to secure Pavel for the upcoming season; he’s been training with us all summer and has been one of the best players on the ice week in week out.
“Jake Nurse rang me in the summer saying he had a guy he thought could be a real asset to the team and once I saw him on the ice I knew he was exactly what we’ve been looking for this season. He is a really calm player on the ice, he reads the game very well, doesn’t lose many puck battles, can carry the puck out from the back and put passes on the tape of forwards breaking out. I think his quality will really shine through and he brings an additional strength to our back line. All the players that have been on the ice with him have commented on his quality so getting him signed up was a priority.
“I think the standard of our league is improving again even with the reduced teams and we’re looking to build a team that’s competing at the top of the table, Pavel gives us a stronger defensive core for the new season.”
The club would like to extend a warm welcome to Pavel and are looking forward to seeing him pull on the #86 jersey for the first time.
