Retired Numbers
#21 Oliver Lomax
Around 1996, a youngster born and bred in Blackburn joined the rinks Learn to Play programme and no one really understood where that journey would take him, hoping one day to become a Blackburn Hawk. In his 437 game Hawks career as a defenceman he has scored 38 goals, 72 assists & is the franchise All Time Penalty minute taker clocking up 1120 minutes!
During his time with the Hawks he was part of the “Invincibles” squad, winning the League and Play Off doubles in 2014 – 15 & 2015 – 16 seasons and the NIHL Northern Play Off Champions in 2012 – 13. Ollie has been at the fore-front with all the community work the club has done over the years and continues to do so.
At the beginning of the 2019-2020 season, Ollie made the heart wrenching decision to retire from his playing career to focus on his young family, giving him more time to spend with wife Nicole and daughters Layla and Freya.
#22 Bobby Haig
Bob was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and joined the Hawks in the 1996-97 Season and subsequently Lancashire Hawks the following season before being offered the Player Coach role in 1998 which he maintained until leaving in 2007. In that time, he amassed a massive point total of 538 in 282 games, a record which still stands to this day.
We hoisted the “22 Haig” banner into the rafters where it rightfully belongs at the first home game of next season when hopefully everyone will be back in the stands to show their respect.
“Speaking as a friend Bob gave me my first taste of senior Hockey as he asked me to be Assistant Coach. I was the “Bad Cop” to his “Good Cop”. During Bob’s time we had a very good Junior System back in the day, and a lot of people won’t be aware that he was instrumental in changing the fortunes of the club and giving a lot of talented youngsters their chance with the Hawks, and we actually persuaded players to return who had left the junior system, ultimately laying the foundations in my opinion for the Team that went on to dominate the league in the way they did”
