𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗼𝗺…

What can I say about Matty? What a character and just an all-around good kid. He’s laid back and plays like a veteran 98% of the time. The other 2% is only because he’s still learning — but even then, he’s incredibly effective. He’s still developing, and that’s what I love about him. He doesn’t dwell on mistakes and always stays even-keeled.

He’s calm and confident with the puck and is just a straight-up shut-down defenceman. You need guys like him to have a solid D-core. I know for a fact he’s had interest and offers from other clubs but turned them down to stay here in Blackburn — because he wants to win.

It’s been an absolute pleasure having Matty, and I’m so glad he’s back with us this year. With the way the team is built this season, we’ll be looking for our D pairings to be able to play with anyone. We’ve got a solid lineup with our new additions, and everyone should be able to slot in together seamlessly.

As much as we’ll try to build 5-man units, I’m confident Matty can play anywhere we need him — on any line, with any player — and be just as effective. If he continues improving like he has over the past three seasons, I truly believe you’ll see him become a top defence man in the league in no time.

Welcome back, Matty — I can’t wait to have a fourth season alongside you.

“I’m excited to be asked to return again this season. Blackburn invested in me early on, and it’s a real pleasure to continue my hockey journey with such a great set of teammates, coaches, and directors.

I’m looking forward to bouncing back from last season and making sure we get some silverware in the cabinet. There’s no question — we have the best fans in the league. Skating out, home and away, is always fantastic.”
